Book Review: Jen Sincero’s Bestseller

Here’s the deal, I like to keep my blog PG. I’d like my grandmother, if she ever figured out the internet, to be able to read my blog without having to giggle embarrassedly into her hands. Also, Philippians 4:8.
Anyway, I did read Jen Sincero’s book, You Are A Badass.

Speaking of language, it had enough sprinkled throughout to keep me from recommending it to a friend. But that’s not why I didn’t like it.
It was a little too woo-woo, to use a modern word. I don’t buy the schtick about us all vibrating at different frequencies and to bring good things to us we have to somehow vibrate our…something (body? soul? mind?) at a higher frequency by using…positive thoughts? I’m not saying it’s not real, but I’ll just think the positive thoughts without worrying about my frequency, thank you.
Let’s be fair, though: I will re-read this book. Why? Not for any practical tips, or methods, or replicable processes, but there are three reasons why I will pick this book up again:
  1. It’s almost six hours of pep talk. I listened to it on Audible, narrated by the author, and found that it had a subconscious and positive effect on me during the day. On days when I’m down, I certainly don’t mind having a cheerleader in my phone.
  2. It reminds me of the basics. Somedays I forget about my potential. Somedays I get bogged down in what I was capable of today instead of what my God-given capability is. No matter how often you’ve heard this, you could hear it again: I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Yea, I was fearfully made, that makes me fearsome. Do you feel fearsome? This book reminds to feel fearsome.
  3. Jen Sincero is funny. She regularly made me laugh. I found the retelling of her life quite humorous. And it’s super kickbutt that she doesn’t have a house, but lives from Air B&B to vacation home to rented room. I will do this when I’m an empty nester.
So, take it or leave it, that’s my review!
What you have YOU been reading lately? Have you read this one yet? What did you think?
